Akzonobel is a leading manufacturer in the market for decorative, automotive, yacht and aerospace paints. The expansion is a response to the changing needs for comfortable and ergonomic work of the team involved in research and development processes. The client-defined layout included a new office space and a partially modernized laboratory space. The layout was realized as an extension to the existing building on the south side. The idea was to preserve the character of the industrial facilities realized on the factory site. The ultramarine-colored extension refers to the history of pigments used by humans. In the Middle Ages, the pigment was the second most expensive dye after gold. It was valued for both its color intensity and its resistance to sunlight. The new facade opens with a panoramic window to the landscape in front of the building. At the turn of the day, the building's artificial light makes the interior exude warmth to the outside.
